UNCOVERED — They BLAME Trump…Look Who Was Really SPYING On Them!

Here’s a bit of a shocker, given that Barack Obama supposedly headed up what he first promised, then characterized, as the Most Transparent White House Administration Ever.

Perhaps his White House administration wasn’t that transparent after all?

America already suffered through a Department of Justice run by Eric Holder, and overseen by Obama, that did get caught tapping into Associated Press reporters’ phone records, and did get caught spying on a Fox News correspondent, and did raise red flags about possible breaches into then-CBS journalist Sheryl Attkisson’s computer.

But perhaps there’s more to the story.

Joe for America reported: “Seems that back in 2013, the Obama administration went to great lengths to do the almost impossible, secretly spy on journalists using the FBI!”

How’d that work?

Well, Bruce Brown, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press said the FBI was allowed to put in place new rules to obtain journalists’ phone records under less-than-constitutional means. In other words: No normal court order needed.

Rather, the FBI under Obama could use its secret court to OK any National Security Letter it wrote stating it needed to access journalists’ records based on national security needs – and these national security needs were so secret, the FBI couldn’t even go through an open court system to detail the needs.

Brown said, as Joe for America reported: “[The] use of NSLs as a way around the protections in the guidelines is a serious concern for news organizations.”

Yes indeed, it is.

The rules hail back from 2013, and basically let the FBI cite counter-terrorism and national security justification to access whatever information it needs to fight the war on terror – and apparently, under Obama, that means even records held by journalists.

This is Stalin stuff, folks. Even if you hate the media, even if you distrust the press – and yes, you should be, because the media is filled with dishonest people – you should be alarmed at this power in the hands of the FBI.

The Constitution and the government system in place in America is supposed to be one of innocence until proven guilty, where the onus of going after a suspect is placed on the accuser, and where the suspect has the right to confront the accuser in an open court, and where evidence and facts must be presented before an unbiased judge and-or jury to determine whether the charges are whimsical and flimsy or worth pursuing.

On top of that, the Founding Fathers saw fit to provide specific protections for the press against an overreaching government, to shield those who would report the truth about politicians from being, say, thrown in jail for simply reporting the truth.

A breakdown in this system is bad for everyone, not just journalists.

Why? It creates a system where the government thinks it can boot stomp the Constitution, run roughshod over individual rights and become a power that says, “I am zee law!”

And if you think the government will keep in check that power to just journalists and to just a select few, then you’re living in a dream world. After all, when have you ever heard of a government self-regulating itself and willingly cutting back its own authorities?
