Attorney General Jeff Sessions is the latest target of Democrats and the mainstream media in their war against the Trump administration.
In recent days, they have condemned the fact that Sessions met with the Russian Ambassador to the US and did not tell the Senate that when they asked him about campaign officials meeting with the ambassador prior to election day.
We now know that Sessions did meet with the ambassador on two occasions.
One instance occurred following a speech that was given last summer during the Republican National Convention as ambassadors from many countries were invited to observe the event.
The Russian ambassador was one of several leaders who approached Sessions and spoke with him briefly following a speech he gave.
The second occasion included one of many private meetings Sessions held with ambassadors from other countries as part of his duties in the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Democrats are now calling for Sessions to resign amid allegations that he lied to Congress and colluded with the Russian government.
The Gateway Pundit reminded us that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in New York City in 2003.
They published an old Associated Press photo of Putin and Schumer enjoying a Krispy Kreme doughnut and coffee “as Putin visits the first New York gas station of the Russian company Lukoil.”
“When I showed the president of Russia a Krispy Kreme doughnut and he ate it and said it was good, that was one of the more surreal moments I’ve had in politics,” Schumer later said of the event.
Democrats such as Schumer and Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) seem to forget that they, too, have met with Russian officials as part of their duties.
Yet Sessions’ actions are treasonous? The hypocrisy is outrageous.
President Donald Trump tweeted after the photo was re-released on Friday.
“We should start an immediate investigation into @SenSchumer and his ties to Russia and Putin. A total hypocrite!” Trump scoffed.
“Happily talk re: my contact w Mr. Putin & his associates, took place in ’03 in full view of press & public under oath. Would you &your team?” Schumer tweeted back.
